1. There is no “i” in team, but there is one in “chic”. Dress the part, because it matters.
2. People remember how they are treated. Be kind to everyone- you never know where they will eventually end up.
3. Being accessible makes you indispensable.
4. Communication is your job, silence is…
I am an extreme people pleaser and yet I push people away before I inevitably let them down. When I talk about my childhood I get bloody noses. I’ve been walked over more times than I can remember and now at 30 I finally find myself growing a backbone. Better late then never, eh? Tired of…
I worry a lot, yet I always hold much hope and faith that everything will turn out alright. Though I’ve been let down by some whom I grew up with, I refuse to let that define me. My three kids astound me with their growth and personal achievements. I value the fact that I’ve never struck out in…
I’ve been lost most of my life. Always having high expectations but never knowing how to reach them. Always making excuses for failures in love, passions, and dreams. Worrying others would realize I’m not the level headed man many perceive me to be. A father with cancer and a broken heart has…
I am the world’s biggest mistake. My mother was six months pregnant prior to me being a glimmer in her eye. I was financially supported. I strived my entire life to please my parents. I graduated at the top of my class and hold a degree in art history. Everything was based on someone else’s…
Okay, so two and a half hours to get ready this morning. Meaning, coffee, shower, awkward hair, make up, packing a lunch and most days, ironing.
Really, an actual iron and ironing board. Seriously, from the girl who just upgraded from a t-shirt to a pot holder this past Sunday.
That is a fact. My water heater is located outside, the temperature is, at a minimum, 105 degrees, so guess what kids…Shower on “burny like fire”, dress on a hanger and the bathroom door closed. There you have it, the Minimalist Guide to Not Ironing.
Don’t get me wrong. I love my job, and where I am headed, but I miss my surroundings. There is nothing more perfect than a stroll down Elmwood Avenue during the summer, or a bike ride through Forest Lawn on a gorgeous September afternoon. I can honestly say that I never thought I would ever feel “home sick”, but I do. It is one of those feelings that makes me miss the people, places and things. And today it was sparked. Fueled by a simple trip to the animal shelter. With one tiny trip to the animal shelter, I find myself searching for the perfect pet name. As I trace my steps, I keep thinking that it should represent me and all the things I love. From start to finish, I keep coming back to Buffalo. The places I have been, the sights I have seen and the experiences I have had. So pretty girl…you will be named Larkin. And you will represent a city I cherish. A city I left because of circumstance. You will be a constant reminder of me and where I blossomed. And together we will find our own path in a new home.
Sometimes, you love everything about it; the scenery, the props, the people. It is a complete homeostasis in your world. The balance somehow seems achievable.
You are progressing. You are forging. You are communicating. And for the first time, in a long time, you are living for you.
The 520 square feet that surround you are your escape from the world. A place where your imagination can fly. Your dreams can soar. And all of your potential can shine.
For once in your life it is for you and about you. Play it. Live it. Feel it and experience it. It is your life, so own it. You are a gift to this world.
